How to Run

Each night, wake the Cardinal.

Determine how many living players currently count as poisoned for the Cardinal's ability.

Show the Cardinal that number, then put them to sleep.

The Cardinal acts late enough in the night for most poison, death and curing effects to have already resolved.

Examples

Three living players are actually poisoned. The Cardinal learns 3.

Two living players are actually poisoned, and a living evil player registers as poisoned because of the Plague. The Cardinal's number includes that evil player: they learn 3.

The Spreader is healthy but registers as poisoned. The Storyteller may include the Spreader in the Cardinal's result.

A poisoned player dies earlier that night. Because the Cardinal counts only living players, that player is no longer included.

The Doctor cures one of three poisoned players before the Cardinal wakes. Assuming no registration effects alter the result, the Cardinal learns 2.

Rules & Clarifications

• Only living players are counted.
• Dead poisoned players do not contribute to the Cardinal's number.
• The Cardinal checks the game state when their ability resolves, not earlier in the night.
• A player who actually becomes healthy before the Cardinal wakes is no longer actually poisoned.
• Evil players always register as poisoned while the Plague has that ability: every living evil player is included in the Cardinal's number.
• The Spreader may also register as poisoned, at the Storyteller's discretion.
• Actual poison and poison registration are different states, but both are counted in what the Cardinal learns.
• If the Cardinal is themselves poisoned or drunk, their information may be false.
• The Doctor does not inform the Plague when curing someone, but the cure can still change the Cardinal's later count.
