Townsfolk
Housekeeper
Novel counterpart: Perpetua
Ability
You start knowing 3 characters: 1 is in play and the other 2 are not.
Mala cosa nascer povero, il mio caro Renzo.
The Housekeeper has heard whispers of three figures, but knows that only one of them truly walks the town.
How to Run
On the first night, wake the Housekeeper.
Show them the character tokens of three characters: exactly one currently in play, and two that are not.
Do not indicate which of the three is in play. Then put the Housekeeper to sleep.
Examples
The Kite is in play; the Doctor and Curate are not. The Storyteller shows the Housekeeper the Doctor, Kite and Curate tokens. The Housekeeper knows one of the three is in play, but not which.
A player later claims Doctor. The Housekeeper knows that if the claim is true, then neither the Kite nor the Curate is in play - and that if the Kite or Curate ever shows up as real, the Doctor claim is a lie.
A character was left out during setup but added by another character's setup ability. That character is now in play and counts as in play for this ability.
The Housekeeper is shown the Cardinal, Spreader and Nun. Later, an ability causes another player to become the Spreader. The Housekeeper's original information was still true when it was given.
Rules & Clarifications
- The Housekeeper learns characters, not players, and is never told which of the three is the in-play one.
- Exactly one shown character must be in play, and two must be out of play, when the information is given.
- Setup modifications are resolved before determining which characters are in or out of play.
- Characters may later enter play through character-changing abilities. This does not make the Housekeeper's original information retroactively false.
- If the Housekeeper is drunk or poisoned when receiving their information, the guarantee may fail in any way: zero, two or three of the shown characters may be in play.
