Travellers
Baker
Novel counterpart: Il fornaio
Ability
Each day, before nominations, publicly choose 3 living players: only they may nominate today.
I fornai respirarono; ma il popolo imbestialì.
When bread grows scarce, not everyone gets a share. The Baker decides who reaches the front of the line, leaving the rest of the town hungry—and unheard.
How to Run
Each day, before nominations begin, ask the Baker to publicly choose 3 living players.
Mark those players RATIONED.
For the rest of the day, only players marked RATIONED may nominate.
This restriction applies only to nominations for execution. Exile is not a nomination and is unaffected by the Baker's ability. Any player may still call for or support the exile of a Traveller.
If the Baker is exiled, dies, or otherwise loses their ability, remove all RATIONED reminders immediately. All eligible players may then nominate normally for the remainder of the day.
At dusk, remove all RATIONED reminders.
Examples
The Baker chooses Alice, Ben and Carol. Only those 3 players may nominate that day. Each may still nominate only once, as normal.
The evil Baker chooses the Plague and 2 Minions. No good player may nominate for execution while the Baker's ability is functioning. A good player calls for the Baker's exile. The Baker is exiled, so the restriction ends immediately and the good players may nominate normally for the rest of the day.
The Baker chooses Alice, who later dies before nominating. Alice remains RATIONED and may still nominate according to the normal rules for dead players.
The Baker chooses Bob. Bob has already nominated earlier that day due to another effect. Being RATIONED does not grant an additional nomination.
The Baker chooses Carol, David and Emma. The group discusses exiling another Traveller. Players who are not RATIONED may still participate normally in that exile.
Rules & Clarifications
- The Baker chooses exactly 3 living players before nominations begin.
- The Baker may choose themselves.
- The choice is public.
- Only players marked RATIONED may nominate for execution while the Baker has a functioning ability.
- Being RATIONED does not grant extra nominations. Normal nomination limits still apply.
- A RATIONED player who later dies remains RATIONED until dusk.
- Players who are not RATIONED cannot nominate for execution while the ability is functioning.
- Exile is not a nomination. The Baker's ability never prevents a player from calling for, supporting, or participating in the exile of a Traveller.
- If the Baker is exiled, dies, becomes drunk or poisoned, or otherwise loses their ability, the nomination restriction ends immediately.
- If the restriction ends during the day, players who were not RATIONED may nominate normally for the remainder of that day.
- RATIONED affects nominations only. It does not affect voting, execution, death, poisoning, drunkenness, character changes, or other abilities.
- At dusk, remove all RATIONED reminders.
- If the Baker enters the game after nominations have already begun, they make no choice that day.
