Patroness

Novel counterpart: Donna Prassede

Patroness, token

Ability

Each day, before nominations, publicly choose another player: they cannot be nominated today.

Per fare il bene, bisogna conoscerlo.

The Patroness is always ready to take someone under her protection—and just as ready to decide what is best for them. Once someone has earned her favour, the town may find it surprisingly difficult to interfere.

How to Run

Each day, before nominations begin, ask the Patroness to publicly choose another player.

That player cannot be nominated today while the Patroness has this ability.

Make the choice clear to the whole group and mark the chosen player PROTECTED.

At dusk, remove PROTECTED.

If the Patroness is exiled before the day ends, their ability stops functioning and the protected player may be nominated normally from that point onward.

Examples

The Patroness publicly chooses Alice. Alice cannot be nominated that day. The town may still discuss Alice, vote normally on other nominations, or exile the Patroness.

The evil Patroness knows who the Plague is and chooses the Demon. The town cannot nominate the Plague while the protection remains. Suspicious of the Patroness's motives, the group exiles the Patroness; the Plague may now be nominated normally.

The Patroness protects a player secretly marked by the Lordling. Since that player cannot be nominated, the Lordling's nomination-triggered death cannot occur while the protection lasts.

The Patroness protects the Curate. The Curate later breaks Madness. Protection from nomination does not prevent the Curate's Madness consequence from triggering.

The Patroness protects a player who dies during the day for another reason. The protection does not prevent death; it only prevents nomination.

  • If the Patroness enters the game after nominations have already begun that day, they make no choice until the following day.
