How to Run

On the first night, wake the Chancellor.

Choose a player whose current character is a Townsfolk and a player whose current character is of a different type, and indicate both players to the Chancellor. Do not indicate which is which. Mark them TOWNSFOLK and NOT TOWNSFOLK in the Grimoire.

Then put the Chancellor to sleep.

Character types are Townsfolk, Outsider, Minion and Demon.

Examples

The Storyteller shows the Chancellor Alice and Ben. Alice is a Townsfolk and Ben is a Minion. The information is true: exactly one of the two is a Townsfolk.

The Storyteller shows the Chancellor a Townsfolk and an Outsider.

The Storyteller may not truthfully show two Townsfolk - and may not truthfully show a Minion and a Demon either, because one of the two players must be a Townsfolk.

Ben later claims to be an Outsider. If Ben's claim is true, the Chancellor knows Alice must be the Townsfolk of the pair.

Rules & Clarifications

• The Chancellor learns two players, not their characters, and is never told which of the two is the Townsfolk.
• Exactly one of the two shown players is a Townsfolk; the other belongs to a different character type.
• Character type means Townsfolk, Outsider, Minion or Demon.
• The information refers to the game state at the time it is given.
• If either player's character later changes, the Chancellor is not informed and their original information does not change retroactively.
• As with other information abilities, if the Chancellor is drunk or poisoned when receiving the information, it may be false in any way: both players could be Townsfolk, or neither.
