Townsfolk
Groom
Novel counterpart: Renzo Tramaglino
Ability
Each night*, choose a player: the first time you choose the living Bride, you learn this, then you learn 1 in-play Minion character. [+Bride]
Lucia! v’ho trovata! vi trovo! siete proprio voi! siete viva!
The Groom searches tirelessly for his Bride. Each night, he reaches out to someone, hoping at last to find her. When he does, he learns it… and, among the dead and the dying, discovers the name of one of those who mean them harm.
How to Run
During setup, if the Groom is added to the game, also add the Bride. If necessary, remove another Townsfolk to keep the correct number of characters.
Each night except the first, wake the Groom. They choose a player.
If the chosen player is the living Bride and the Groom has not already done this, tell the Groom they found the Bride, then show them the character token of one Minion that is in play. Mark the Groom's ability as used.
Do not wake the Bride: she learns nothing.
If the chosen player is not the Bride, or the Bride is dead, or the Groom has already found her, nothing happens.
Keep waking the Groom each night even after the ability has been used, so that the pattern of wakes does not reveal what has happened.
Examples
On the second night, the Groom chooses the player who is the Bride. He is told he found her and is shown the Kite, a Minion in play. The Bride sleeps through all of it and learns nothing.
The Groom chooses a player who is not the Bride. Nothing happens.
The Groom finds the Bride on the fourth night. There are two Minions in play. The Storyteller chooses one of them and shows that character to the Groom.
The Groom already found the Bride. On a later night he chooses her again. Nothing happens: the ability worked only the first time.
The Bride died before the Groom ever chose her. He can never trigger this ability, because the Bride is no longer living.
The Groom is poisoned when he chooses the Bride. The Storyteller may tell him nothing, or may show him a Minion character that is not in play.
The Henchman chooses the Groom, so the Groom does not wake tonight. He makes no choice and the ability cannot trigger this night.
Rules & Clarifications
[+Bride]is a setup modification. Whenever the Groom is put in play, the Bride is also put in play. Each night*means the Groom makes no choice on the first night.- The Groom may choose any player; only the living Bride triggers the ability.
- The Bride must be alive at the moment she is chosen. A dead Bride never triggers the ability.
- The ability triggers once per game. Choosing the Bride again afterwards does nothing.
- Only the Groom learns. The Bride is not woken and receives no information from this ability.
- The Groom learns a character, not a player. Being shown the Kite does not indicate who the Kite is.
- If several Minions are in play, the Storyteller chooses which one to show.
- The character shown must be a Minion that is genuinely in play at that moment, not merely one that some player registers as.
- If the set of in-play Minion characters has changed - for example because the Greybeard became another evil character - the read reflects the roster at the time it is given.
- If the Groom is drunk or poisoned when the ability triggers, his information may be false, and the Storyteller may decide whether the ability counts as used.
